Frédéric Chopin - präludium in g-dur (Klavierstücke)
Michael Kamen - arabia (Don Juan de Marco Original Soundtrack)
Dragonlord - judgement failed (Rapture)
Danzig - mother (Danzig)
Satyricon - the dawn of a new age [remix] (Meggido)
Abdul Majeed Abdullah - inta al hob (The Best Arabian Album In The World... Ever!)
Almora - kurşun asker (Kalihora's Song)
Hammerfall - legacy of kings [live] (One Crimson Night)
Alexandra - klingt musik am kaukasus (Ihre größten Erfolge)
Uhrilehto - korpimetsan perkele (Ihmisvihan Eliitti)
Marvin Gaye - little darling i need you (I Heard It Through The Grapevine)
Connie Francis - nino (Die Liebe ist ein seltsames Spiel)
Into Eternity - novus inceptum (The Scattering Of Ashes)
Savatage - this isn't what we meant (Dead Winter Dead)
Okay, so that Satyricon remix was crap. Terrible.
I was a little disappointed of Joacim Cans' vocals on the Hammerfall live track - he didn't sing the high notes :-( He just left them out...
All in all this was one of the weaker sessions, but the 1969 Schlager/Folk song by Alexandra was amazing - what a great track! And Connie Francis - presenting another Schlager - was breathtaking as always, even if 'nino' is not among her strongest tracks (in my opinion).
And, we had cult (Danzig), boredom (Dragonlord), Lebanon (Abdul Majeed Abdullah), noise (Uhrilehto) and the Daily Marvin Gaye.

Ensemble Unicorn - hont paur (Codex Faenza)
The Prodigy - diesel power (The Fat Of The Land)
Therion - cults of the shadow (Theli)
Immortal - battlefields (Blizzard Beasts)
A-ha - dragonfly (Lifelines)
Auf der Maur - taste you (Auf der Maur)
Amon Amarth - the arrival of the fimbul winter (The Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter)
Tourniquet - servant of the bones (Microscopic View Of A Telescopic Realm)
Manowar - each dawn i die (Hail To England)
R. Kelly - when a woman's fed up (Darker Than Blue)
Marvin Gaye - heavy love affair (Anthology)
Deströyer 666 - australian and anti-christ (Unchain The Wolves)
Dødheimsgard - lost in faces (Monumental Possession)
Megadeth - mechanix (Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!)
Funny - Today chose the exact same Immortal song as last session: 'battlefields'. What could that mean..?
Pretty boring was A-ha... how can you compose something like this? And in the production phase that boring piece of music was even covered in all kinds of sugar icing - make it stop...
But The Prodigy, Therion, Melissa Auf der Maur, Marvin Gaye - great diverse round tonight, also including twice total rumbling with Deströyer 666 and Dødheimsgard. Even R. Kelly's song was kinda good ;-)

Thin Lizzy - emerald (Live & Dangerous)
Good morning ... and what a lovely one, the sun breaks through the clouds, coffee and Unholy Today. Roughly waken up by the sound of Death Metal Today presents me a song from At The Gates' debut album. A chain of fast and good riffs accompany me through the early hours of the day, good song but the recording itself doesnt transmit the power that might let your ears tremble when listening to this song live.
Awww ... did I ever mention how much I love Today ? No, well I do, cause Colonia is next. With Indira and Seka, all readers of unholy Today should know by them now, this is the 3rd band from the Balkan region that I admire so much and have seen already live as well. Believe me this band, rather their singer Ira releases an energy that fills the complete halls of Nachtwerk and touches everyone in the audience, an extraordinary performance. This song is one from their 3rd album and it has already the catchy tunes and parts that make this band, respectively this genre so unique.
A song from Cream with a very long instrumental part in the middle, which extends this song to over nine minutes, is next on the list. Considering this was recorded Live the sound isnt so bad. The song title of the next song took me some time to write down :), this song has a nice atmosphere and partly slower riffs bring a nice change. On a side note, Im missing Enthrone Darkness Triumphant album :(
A nice mix of music that I had so far and a song from Justin Timberlake made it on the list and this is a welcome change in rhythm and selection of instruments.
Listening to the remianing songs while cleaning up the apartment I want to point to a band The Black Sweden that merges classic rock/metal songs with ABBA songs in an exceptional way, very entertaining and with this I close Today today and listen to the remaining songs from Gold ...

Dream Theater - under a glass moon (Images And Words)
Immortal - battlefields (Blizzard Beasts)
Alice Deejay - will i ever
Black Sabbath - neon knights (Heaven And Hell)
Savatage - hall of the mountain king (Hall Of The Mountain King)
Summoning - a distant flame before the sun (Stronghold)
Abdullah Ibrahim - blanton (African Suite)
Equilibrium - tote heldensagen (Turis Fratyr)
Machine Head - blood for blood (Burn My Eyes)
Dream Evil - fight you 'til the end (Evilized)
İzel - direniyorum (Bir Dilek Tut Benim İçin)
Black Sabbath - wheels of confusion/the straightener (Vol. 4)
Belphegor - abschwörung (Blutsabbath)
Anthony Hamilton - do you feel me (American Gangster Original Soundtrack)
A bargain kicks off today's round, I bought this album quite cheaply as my first encounter with Dream Theater. I have to say I didn't hear it a lot :-) This is not necessarily my kind of Progressive Metal, this song was not bad though. Confusing as it has to be (it's Progressive Metal, you know?) and enjoyable. TOTALLY different then the Black Metal warriors from Norway - the sound is really something you have to get used to. Not uninteresting, but I can't say that a lot happened when this track was on. Unbelievable how distinctive Abbath's vocals sound. The next track might get close to what you'd call "embarassing". It's a bubblegum techno song from 2000 I think - I personally never heard of Alice Deejay again. This not only features an impressivly silly Single album cover, but also a very good melody line and chorus. What would Immortal think if they saw this playlist?
'neon knights' - what can you say? This is a brilliant tune and a true classic. Great vocals and lyrics by Mr. Dio. Another Metal cult band, this time from the USA, is up next: Savatage and the eternal 'hall of the mountain king'. A great song and awesome US Metal sound. Definitely a must have, the young Savatage before they moved on to a more operatic (did I hear pretentious?) Metal sound and Jon Oliva's vocals weakened. A cool song idea is presented by Summoning then, but it's majorly disturbed by the very harsh and not exactly fulfilling vocals in my opinion. Musically great, but Silenius tries to kill it with the jangling.
Abdullah Ibrahim's 'blanton' is a fascinating piece of contemporary music - touching dissonance but always finding back in time. Turis Fratyr and their fast heldensagen-song are also nice but quite predictable. Machine Head sound like Machine Head, and Dream Evil sing a very nice verse melody to then shout a chorus about certain other departments you have to face every day: fight you 'til the end! No, I'm kidding... The chorus is a bit platitudinous (and yes, I had to look up this word and don't know if I use it correctly), but all in all that's a fine tune. "Bir Dilek Tut Benim İçin" is a great album, but I realized this only after a couple of listens, because a big part of this is slower, a bit melancholic sounding tunes like this one. 'direniyorum' is not the strongest track on this album, but still mighty fine. I have to listen to this whole record again soon...
A weeping guitar then opens the second Black Sabbath song today, this time from their earlier phase and with Ozzy Osbourne on vocals. Tenacious, smokey 70ies sound and a great Ozzy - cool track and a great closing melody. Belphegor do just about everything right on the following song - excellent song title, unbelievable album cover and an amazingly fast blasphemous beast of a song featuring a Slayer solo. A certain professional Sniper is to thank for the American Gangster Soundtrack, and 'do you feel me' is just as great and classy as every track on this recording. It's so good to see that new Soul music can still sound like that.

Led Zeppelin - your time is gonna come (I)
Therion - symphony of the dead (A'arab Zaraq Lucid Dreaming)
Agent Steel - taken by force (Skeptics Apocalypse)
Solitude Aeturnus - shame on the night (Holy Dio)
Kamelot - creation (Dominion)
Evergrey - rulers of the mind [live] (A Night To Remember)
Cathedral - tree of life & death (The Garden Of Unearthly Delights)
Emperor - towards the pantheon (In The Nightside Eclipse)
Ásmegin - slit livets baand (Hin Vordende Sod & Sø)
Dragonforce - the flame of youth (Inhuman Rampage)
Kampfar - lyktemenn (Kvass)
Marduk - the black... (Fuck Me Jesus)
After Forever - come (Mea Culpa)
Tarja Turunen - sing for me (My Winter Storm)
Wow, a very very metal Today :-) (Thou shalt not question the eternal wisdom upon which Today choses)
My God, Emperor's 'towards the pantheon' is an epiphany of Metal! This intro is something that you never forget once you've heard it. What unbelievable genius. Oh, Emperor...
I said it before and I say it again, Tarja Turunen's album is really good. The track featured here, 'sing for me', has a great melody line and is just completely epic and cool and well done. So much better than the new Nightwish album, and I'm not saying that because of personal preferences regarding that big fight and break up. Even if I seem to be the only person on the planet: this is so much better than "Dark Passion Play".
I didn't understand one single second of the Cathedral track, and I so wanted to... But this album just doesn't work. The Kampfar song was very impressive - this must be a great album to hear in winterwoods. I've yet to hear the rest of "Kvass", but this song was amazing. And then the Symphonic Diva Metal package at the end - that was a great session! And Dragonforce were funny, too ;-)

Mystic Prophecy - the traveller (Regressus)
Bobby Goldsboro - honey
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - barbare, perchè fuggi? (Così fan tutte)
Francesca Gregorini - my flight
Anathema - judgement (Judgement)
Candan Erçetin - melek (Melek)
Connie Francis - heartaches by the number
Bruce Springsteen - war [live] (Live/1975-85)
Cream - deserted cities of the heart (Gold - In The Studio)
The Beach Boys - help me rhonda (Hits Of The Beach Boys)
Dreamtone - reasons (Sojourn)
Joy Division - wilderness (Unknown Pleasures)
Agathodaimon - bitter end (Serpent's Embrace)
Marduk - darkness it shall be [live] (Live In Germania)
'honey' is positively gruesome. Francesca Gregorini's song is one of her better tunes, the demo production is a bit weak, but this track is really enjoyable. My weeping all-time-greatest Connie Francis was also featured again - anyone who hears this voice and doesn't understand why she's special must be dead, or deaf, or both. This is not her best (cover version of a Ray Price song that has must have been covered a million times), but needless to say, it's great.
I may just be ignorant, but I never felt much for Springsteen. Still don't. Plus, I think he improvised a bit and sang the line "war is something that I despise" - really... duh. I don't know the original version of this (I think by The Temptations), but here it didn't work for me. Dreamtone were interesting - did you ever wonder how a progressive Heavy Metal band would sound if Meat Loaf was singing for them? Here you go.
So, Marduk, The Beach Boys, Mozart and Joy Divison in one session - this is what we're here for :-)

Irina Mikhailova - dushenika
Judas Priest - bloodsuckers (Demolition)
Malevolent Creation - shock and awe (Warkult)
Asgaard - mare tranquillitatis (XIII Voltum Lunae)
Enslaved - as fire swept clean the earth (Below The Lights)
Hande Yener - hadi geçmiş olsun (Sen Yoluna... Ben Yoluma...)
Kamelot - fire within (Eternity)
Dismember - autopsy (The God That Never Was)
Desaster - profanation [live] (Brazilian Blitzkrieg Blasphemies)
Pearl Jam - garden (Ten)
Mike Oldfield feat Bonnie Tyler - islands (Elements)
Massive Attack - dissolved girl (Mezzanine)
Occult - work of a legend (Rage To Revenge)
Vesna Pisarović - sklona avanturama (Pjesma mi je sve)
All in all a very good Today (although I had to fight through Oldfield's piece, and to be honest, Vesna Pisarović's song was a little nerve-wracking as well). Enslaved and Desaster were the greatest eyebrow raisers, and it was beautiful to hear Hande Yener and Asgaard again. Also, Today chose almost no love/heartbreak songs. Thanks, I really appreciate that. ;-)

Good morning Today, I know, I neglect you for a long time as the evil power of Fantasy Sports drained the last of my energy ... im back and I can see you present with an extraordinary selection of songs. What shall I say Amr Diab, The Duskfall, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Opeth and Persuader, few of the finest bands I have in my repertoire.
Starting with an accoustic song from Alfred Polansky, excellent guitar play with a touch of Spanish, very relaxing tune. Kind of music that you listen to in the sunset with a glas of whiskey contemplating about life. Something funny on the side, if you search for Alfred Polansky over Google, oh yeah ... unholy Today is the top search result. Is this the beginning of the unholy crusade of Today ?
We are turning to Pop and Amr Diab and a very catchy guitar part in the middle of the song, bit slow ... Id probably know why if I could understand the lyrics.
The next song catches my attention as the "synthi" part is quite good, the growls in German took the atmosphere a bit and a sudden switch in language bit later as well. Im not so familiar with Dissection, but this was a solid Black Metal song with nice double base parts.
May I introduce you to The Duskfall, incredibly amazing band that caught my heart since I was listening to their first song from Frailty. The vocals suit this kind of music so well and the fast parts are well done again, im just missing the melodic touch in this album ... there are other songs from The Duskfall that knock you out of the chair.
From Black to Death to Black ... might be a song title, nevertheless Enthroned surrounds me with an image as id im standing on the battlefield, no vocals on this track though. The keyboard tune in the next song from Eternal Tears of Sorrow stick out and all in all this is good Melodic Death Metal track, suprising change from clean to growls in the start of the song as well.
Ah well ... my heart goes boom, or rather my "old" heart goes boom when I listened to this all time classic from French Affair. At least in this part of the world it was impossible to not hear this song when it got released in 2000. You know what its still cool :)
The next song from The Gathering taken of their Live album Superheat surprised me a bit, as I was taken to the sinister deep of darkness and then back to the sky where the sun rays stroke your face ... ah well, maybe im not still awake, that song kinda caught me.
And my pair of music history is on the list again, Iron Maiden with Sanctuary and Judas Priest with One Shot at Glory :). We are taken to the very early days of Iron Maiden and even if the song is taken from the later compilation you can clearly hear that its an old recording ... love that. It seems only songs from Painkiller make it on my list ... (low thundering rumble in the background) ... ok, I mean im blessed with songs taken from Painkiller and that album is great indeed :).
So here we are on the peak of the my olymp of music, Opeth an extraordinary band that accompany for so many years already. The first song from their first album sparkles with intensive growls from Akerfelt and amazing parts on guitar and drums. Dont be scared of the 14 min, this band takes you on a journey from hard and sinister metal parts to melodic breaks where you can let your soul rest in the sound waves ... <3
now its time to get ready for the concert tonight as INDIRA RADIC is on stage ... YEAH !!!
