So, are we satisfied with the result? Not really. Norway didn't impress us as much as everybody else, I mean yes - if you hear it for the first time, it sticks. But then you hear it for the second tiem, and it still sticks... and then the third and fourth time, you realize how much he screams, and so so quickly it becomes so annoying...
But it was clear that it will be a popular song in the ranking, but Iceland and UK?? That's a bummer. What did people hear and see here that we didn't? Was it the dolphin in Iceland's performance and the fact that the really lovely Jade got hit by a violin bow? I don't know, but the result, all in all, is a disappointment.
Azerbaijan, Turkey, Estonia - they were good and the result was expected, well done Europe. Estonia's singing fairy did great, but she was a bit better in her semi-final performance - here in the final she tried to do more facial expressions, and although she was still fascinating, the even more low-key first appearance was better.

The "Big 4" were not as disappointing (or in other words, bad) as last year. Patricia Kaas did well, and the others were not as terrifying as 2008 either. Even Germany was not abysmal this year, just simply very bad.
Sapnish's favourite? Israel. What a marvellous song and performance, unbelievable, symbolic, flawless, peaceful, virtuoso, perfectly sung, awesome scenography. This song and performance touched me deeply when I heard it in the semi final, and I knew this will be a love forever.
I also have an innocent crush on Mira Awad. She's fantastic. When she started singing the arabic verse into the camera in the first semi-final, it was one of these magic moments that music gives you. Unforgettable, thank you for that, Mira Awad.

Other favourites were Russia (we didn't get it at first, but the performance was genius), the Metal song from Belarus (didn't make it to the final), the cool Ethno Pop by Armenia, the not-perfect Turkish-but-in-English pop by Hadise, Slovenia's Apocalyptica with Lady, Azerbaijan if they would have dropped the guy, Greece if they would have dropped the guy, Ukraine if they would have sung only the chorus without confusing performance, and yeah - Albania!
Albania's song is AWESOME! Unfortunately some mad person came up with the performance. If you've seen it, you know what I mean. Nobody on this planet can understand why they did that.
So I guess you can say, "Albania - but with your eyes closed".
Again a huge disappointment, as last year, most of the songs from Ex-Yugoslavia. Bosnia was abysmal and made you feel like dying, Serbia was a joke accompanied by a fart, Croatia was simply boring and tooooo hiiiiiigh, Montenegro was boring and then killed by the female singer, and Macedonia brought some over-the-hill pop/rock. Basically only Slovenia could convince here, a disgrace for countries with such rich musical heritage as well as contemporary glory.
All in all one has to say that the hit concentration was much higher than in recent years - I don't think I've ever seen a Song Contest with more good and interesting songs, and less terrible pieces of crap. Really impressive what a lot of countries have presented this year, and very very diverse - so this positive trend continues.
Some people still do not understand what this event is about, but I'm not gonna lose words on that here - I just feel sorry for them and am happy for myself and the lovely people I have spent that evening with, that we - after getting over the disappointing results - have made another journey towards cultural exchange, the cosmopolitan idea and musical diversity.
