Just started to rain here and I had to forfreit my plans to go out and take Today with me into the sun ... ah well :).
Starting with such an unique voice in the Pop world, Chris Martin from Coldplay. I have to admit im not such a big fan but I think no one who ever turned on a Radio could miss one of their famous songs. Next a song from my all-time fav band Iron Maiden from one of their later albums, Dance of Death. The song was ok, not so outstanding as their older albums and one memory I connect to this album is that it was actually one of the first albums that I bought about a year ago after spending not one coin on CDs for years and all the remastered Iron Maiden CDs were sold for a bargain in a local music store ... ok, ok I wasnt familiar at all with the music that was on the disc, is rather the album cover that attracted me, allthough looking on the CDs that I have from Iron Maiden stacked up in my moderate shelf only reserved for original CDs all the others look better - Somewhere In Time just an example. Jumping from one of my most fav bands to the next, Opeth and one of their rare cover songs Circle of the Tyrant, which is originally from Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion. Great song indeed but im not going to judge who made the better interpretation ;), nah I think Opeth had a reason to cover this song and see it as a tribute to the song from Celtic Frost. Ok ... seems Today wants to spoil me with great bands, cause next is Paradise Lost and if someone would ask me what my most favourite Metal bands are the 3 so far would be amongst them. Lydia from One Second, just one of the great songs on this album, a rather slow song with a very intensive voice of Nick Holmes in the more quiet parts.
A long and smooth instrumental intro leads us to a song from Pink Floyd and with 12:22 quite long for the progressive Rock band and no doubt has its psychadelic flair mixed with a rather melancholy part in the end.
From the slow tunes to an extraordinarily powerful voice, Seka, who emits such an energy in live performances that you risk to be blast away when you stand too close ;). I cant wait to see her live again in just about 5 weeks, the perfect concert to start into the summer.
Erm yeah ... a song, or rather a tune from the OST of an anime fills in the gap to the probably most famous "export" from Liverpool (on a side note, the European Capital of Culture 2008), The Beatles. The chain of great artists is not interrupted and Tom Jones makes his appearance on Today. When I was talking of unique voices, here is another example.
The sun is breaking through the clouds again and I will take the rest of the songs to a walk around Vienna ... was babbling too much already anyways ;)
