Winter in the Abyss

TYR + HOLLENTHON + ALESTORM + SVARTSOT
Szene Wien - 17.10
This was the second time this year that I have seen Hollenthon live on stage and again it was an awesome performance. Supported by Supul's energetic presence we headbanged to evergreens like "To Kingdom Come", "Y Draig Goch", "Fire on the Blade" and lots more.
Alestorm with their Scottish touched music and the unmistakeable influence of ... erm, Pirates, was a big suprise on this evening. That performance was just fun to watch and it was cool being dragged into the crowd who just took up the whiskey laden spirit and kept on headbanging and singing. You could almost have mistaken the location for an old wooden pub near the sea.

DARK TRANQUILLITY + POISIONBLACK + FEAR MY THOUGHTS
Szene Wien - 06.11

Back in the little Szene Wien location, little in space maybe, but perfect for exactly this concert - Dark Tranquillity. The band might not draw the same attention as other bands currently do, but one quick glance at the audience and you could see how eager everyone was to see Dark Tranquillity on stage. It didnt took them long to get the crowd and heads moving and it lated until the last song :)

SONATA ARCTICA + PAGAN'S MIND + VANISHING POINT
Gasometer Wien - 13.11

Sonata Arctica was a "blank file" for me and to finish this wordplay, yeah "blank file" is one of most favorite songs. Unfortunately this song didnt make in on their setlist, but they made it up with a fantastic performance on stage.

UNHOLY ALLIANCE
SLAYER + MASTODON + TRIVIUM + AMON AMARTH
Gasometer Wien - 16.11

The Alpha and the Omega, Slayer and Amon Amarth were the reasons to join the masses to this event in Vienna. Even the short 30 minutes where Amon Amarth were on stage justified the money for the concert ticket already. Of course the 30 minutes were too short, but they will be back in March for more.
"Slayer" screams and raised hands all over the place shortly before Slayer appeared behind a big white transparent curtain. Extraordinary performance, bit less interaction with the audience, but 90 minutes rough Thrash Metal what probably no one in the hall expected the full "Reign In Blood" album ... incredible :)

THE DARKEST TOUR: FILTH FEST
CRADLE OF FILTH + GORGOROTH + MOONSPELL + SEPTIC FLESH + ASRAI
Gasometer Wien - 08.12
Sapnish, Supul and me arrived there a bit later and Moonspell was the first band on stage and a great evening started with a great band. The music didnt touch me as much as it did my 2 friends, still after listening to Wolfheart a few days later and some bits of their newest Im convinved of their dark touched music. It was cool to share this concert with my friends, in the end its not the sound quality, naked people hanging on the cross (Gorgoroth) or other special effects on stage that counts as long as you can enjoy good music with your friends.
Cradle was great again, im still very impressed by the voice spectrum that Dani is able to fill the air with, just amazing.
@Picture, unfortunately this is not a picture taken from the concert in Vienna. Even after a torough search on the web I didnt find any taken from this particular picture. Maybe the following video on youtube gives a good impression :)

METALFEST 2008
MORBID ANGEL + KATAKLYSM + MARDUK + KEEP OF KALESSIN + ARSIS
Gasometer Wien - 13.12

Panzer Divisione Marduki (hope its not mispelled), a little insider term and of course referring to Marduk. Their albums give me a hard time, I dont understand all of their songs, but live on stage they are more than capable to deliver good, fine Black Metal.
Kataklysm was a neckbreaker again, raw, piercing Death Metal. Maybe a bit too many announcements from Maurizio, which have might led people to believe not all of them are serious ;)

SEKA ALEKSIC
Nachtwerk Wien - 13.12

After a short taxi ride I was at Nachtwerk, long it has been ... too long, to see Seka again :). That place is undenieable awesome, they even put the bass speaker tower back on stage and you could feel every low tone humming through the floor. Luckily I have not been to late and Seka started even later as in her concerts before. Favourite tracks ... they were all great again and if it wasnt already a long day I would have been glad to see her second outfit after the break already early in the morning/late at night. Seka, you can come as often as you want, ...
