Starting with Amorphis and a Track from their first album, Chapters is a best of Compilation, Warriors Trial is originally taken from The Karelian Isthmus(1993). Seems Today wants to point to an album that I have to listen to, this song guides the listener through finest Death Metal, melodic and parts filled with dark atmosphere. Luckily its saturday and this album is definately on the playlist for this afternoon.
From the lands near the Finnish Golf (Karelian Isthmus) to Egypt and one of its musicians, who can rightfully claim to be the Robbie Williams of Egypt(a good friend described him this way). Amareen is a good Pop song that has all the oriental flair that you would expect from an Egyptian song and still could easily compete with the "common" Pop songs that are broadcasted over the radio 24/7. I just wish that there would a few radio stations that would read that and add this kind of songs to their playlists ...
Today presents me Arch Enemy and a song from Wages of Sin, first appearance of their current singer Angela Nathalie Gossow, who performs very well in this album. The song itself is solid and has some catchy drum parts. Following by shivers from Dio's Master of the Moon, a touch of doom in this song. I cant follow the lyrics in this song though ... "If I had a nightmare, I'm sure that I would know". Ah well ... a classic song and this time its not at the end :), features a solid flute solo. Next is a cover by La Bouche from an all-time classic "I cant stand the rain", originally by Ann Peebles and I often covered by several artists. Dont wanna discredit La Bouche, as they approach this song from a different direction as just copying text and melody, but after I had listened to their version and switched to the original one I couldnt remember the one from La Bouche anymore. Ann Peebles, such an amazing voice in this song that it gives me goose-bumps.
Cold ... listening to this song didnt bring up this natural feeling, I couldnt follow the duett parts, one nice guitar solo in the middle of the song.

O mighty Today, how long have I been waiting for that you present me with a song from Paradise Lost and finally ...(dramatic scene, lightning from above and deep voice saying)
Thou shalt not demand songs from Today, the unholy powers within Today are blessing you with songs ... dont whine and listen !

Back to Paradise Lost after this example of my dramatic talent, well guess quite poor one :). I dont where to start, but I worship this band so much and im so glad that a good friend introduced me this band. Eternal(Gothic) is a masterpiece, amazing vocals from Nick Holmes, an intensity in his voice that let the air freeze surrounding you. Mackintosh accompanies this song with phenomenal play on the guitar. This album rightfully sets a milestone in music history and is the fundament of many more gothic metal albums to come. I bow deeply before this band and its music ...
A solid Black Metal song from Ragnarok is next, the middle part amazed me a bit, quite well done. Another all-time classic, you make me feel like dancing, in my list and I feel like being ported back to the 70s (a nice video on youtube, Leo Sayer).
How soon is now, originally by The Smiths and covered as intro track for the TV series Charmed is next on my list and of course the tune is familiar as you just couldnt pass this series when you are watching TV. On a side note, this song has been covered by Paradise Lost as well and you find a version here (How soon is now), just wish Id had a better version as just the youtube one.

After 2 coffee I close this for today and go off to shops, as usual the fridge is empty on weekend :)
