In addition to lists (and charts, and playists...), I love reviews for music albums. So...
What would be better than combining the two? That's right, NOTHING.
Several magazines, websites and other media where people think they have something to say that the world needs to hear have compiled such "Greatest albums of all time" lists and reviewed every single one of them, hoping to bring across what makes all these records so great.
Having so much time on my hands (yes, I'm kidding) I have decided to take on a huge task. I want to listen to all albums in these greatest album lists, posting the original review here and then review it myself. Yes, it will take me 204 or 205 years to actually do this, but that's OK - it's nice to have an ongoing hobby to go back to (similar to the other ongoing football-related hobby that Sacrifi-sir and I will hopefully share for the rest of our lives).
I want to start off with the Rock Hard Top 300 Hard'n'Heavy albums of all Time (www.rockhard.de). This proved to be a great list (which I have in the original version - on paper) and as much as Rock Hard bores me now, I have to say they did a fabulous job here and I can only imagine what an effort that must have been.
Also, I'm thinking about doing the same for The Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of all Time (look here), which will take me forever (and will also include a lot of Beatles, I guess).
Regarding the Metal Hammer, there are two similar efforts known to me:
In 2005 they published The 100 Best Metal Albums of all Time which were voted by the readers (I own these magazines), and maybe 10 years earlier the (if I remember correctly) 100 Meisterwerke special (although I don't own that completely and I don't remember what kind of list that was). So I don't own the Meisterwerke one, but considering what I have to do I might never get around to doing that anyway. In general it would be nice to have those old magazines though, I might even try to re-order them.
There is also more on Besteveralbums, The Critic's Den, and then of course the gazillion charts by single internet users all over the planet.
So I guess that's the idea. I mean, I might never start, but if I do - it's gonna be right here on Unholy Today!
